Baby food does not have to be bought in a jar from your grocery store. You can prepare your own at home, and it is easy. Baby food is simply steamed and then strained, pureed, or mashed adult fruits and vegetables with the seeds and skin removed, just an unseasoned version of the food you would prepare for yourself.
The Benefits of preparing your baby’s food are:
- You will know exactly what is in your baby’s food.
- It is much less expensive than store bought baby food.
- It will always be fresh and not contain additives and preservatives
- You can shape your baby’s tastes and help her learn what fresh fruits and vegetables taste like.
- It is good for the environment.
Tips for Preparing Your Own Baby Food
You should buy only organic fruits and vegetables free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers . Prior to cooking you should scrub fruits and vegetables well with a vegetable brush and then trim or pare away the skin, seeds, and pits removing any part of the fruit or vegetable that might cause your baby to choke or gag.
You should steam fruits and vegetables until soft. Steaming preserves more of the vitamins and minerals than boiling does. When fully cooking you should grind or mash to a stage appropriate for your baby. You can even mix or blend different types of fruits and vegetables together to create better tasting meals for your child – like carrots and pears; or bananas and pears.
Make enough for several meals at a time and pour the freshly-steamed and pureed fruits and vegetable into individual GoFreshBaby reusable pouches close the lid and refrigerate or freeze depending on when you are going to use them next.
Label all of your GoFreshBaby reusable pouches with the contents and date prepared and rotate stock so you are always using the first in -first out system. Self prepared baby foods can be safely kept frozen for three months.
