Storing Homemade Baby Food
Babies eat in small servings but require frequent meals. So most parents make food purees in larger quantities and store what is left in the refrigerator or freezer. There are a variety of methods that you can use to store homemade baby food. However, it is important to keep in mind that the method you choose has to be sanitary as well as convenient. Check out these helpful tips:
Ice Cube Tray Method
Some parents prefer storing homemade baby food in ice cube trays. In this method, you will first have to thoroughly clean the ice cube trays. To do this, you can either run them through a dishwasher in the sanitize setting or clean them with soapy water. If the ice cube trays indicate that they can be boiled, you can also sterilize them by dunking in boiling water. Once the tray is clean and dry, simply spoon the homemade baby food into individual cubes, cover the tray with plastic wrap and place it in the freezer.
By using this method, you will be able to remove individual cubes of food when needed. Since each cube is approximate 1 ounce of food, you will be able to get a better idea of how much the baby is consuming in each sitting. Furthermore, this reduces waste as you only remove the number of cubes that are needed. Once thoroughly frozen, transfer cubes into a freezer safe zip lock bag. Label and date the bag so you can finish perishable items before they go bad.
GoFreshBaby Food Pouches
GoFreshBaby food pouches are one of the most “quick and easy” methods for storing as well as feeding babies. You can store a variety of homemade baby foods in GoFreshBaby food pouches. These reusable pouches are perfect for storing homemade baby food because they can be stored in the refrigerator/freezer. Made out of durable and BPA free material, GoFreshBaby food pouches are a popular option for busy, on-the-go parents. You can carry these pouches with you when you are out or at home and your baby can feed him/herself with ease.
If you do choose to refrigerate, finish the cooked food within 48 hours to avoid the danger of contamination. GoFreshBaby food pouches are a great freezer-friendly option. Simply place frozen baby food puruee cubes into the GoFreshBaby reusable food pouch and seal. Due to the size and shape of the cubes, you may not be able to fit 5 oz into the pouch but it is a great way to control portions. Another option is to fill your GoFreshBaby reusable food pouch with baby food puree, squeeze out the air and tighten the seal. Place your GoFreshBaby reusable food pouch directly in the freezer.
To defrost, place the GoFreshBaby reusable food pouch into warm water until desired temperature.
